What to Expect
Most interviews are conducted in the CRC and others may take place in various rooms located on the second and third floors throughout the Reitz Union. When you arrive, check the CRC Grey Rolling board to find out where your interview will be located.

The gray rolling board is to your left as you walk in to our office. |
Once you find out where your interview is, go to the room and wait outside the door of the room. The recruiter will call your name when it is time for your interview. The interviews will be either in the back of the CRC in spaces listed as “CRA” or “CRB” interview modules or in an office space indicated. Interviews can also be located on the second and third floors of the Reitz Union “RU”. Just check the rolling board for the exact location the day of the interview, unless you are contacted in advance.
Be Prepared
Review the job listing and review the employer's web site before your interview so that you will be knowledgeable about the industry, company and position. If the employer holds an information session, be sure to attend.
Tip: Anticipate and practice possible interview questions by attending a CRC workshop, meet with a CRC staff member to review some interview techniques, or by participating in our Mock Interview program
Know Who You are Interviewing With
To respect the request of employers the Career Resource Center is unable to give out recruiters’ names or contact information, thus we empower you to gather this information. We ask that you attend information sessions to meet your interviewer and we encourage you to get a business card at that time. In addition, you can get contact information of the recruiter(s) you’ll be interviewing with from the Gator CareerLink - Career Events section, at Career Showcase, or company websites. By getting this information you are able to cancel your interview at the last minute or send a thank you note after the interview. Showcase your communication skills by taking the initiative to know their names and have their contact information; it truly shows a level of professionalism, and it will set you apart from other candidates.
Don't be Late
Arrive 10-15 minutes before your interview time. If you miss your appointment, you will be subject to no show penalties/cancellation penalties (not to mention the less-than-stellar impression you will make with the recruiter). Review the cancellation policy to make sure that you are familiar with the expectations that the CRC has for all students and alumni interviewing
Tip: Be sure to provide enough time for traffic and parking!!
How to Dress
You cannot go wrong if you wear a conservative suit. A dark suit (navy blue, black, dark gray) or coordinates is best. Avoid bright or flashy colors. Dressing professionally is a sign of respect and indicates that you are taking your opportunity seriously. Jeans, t-shirts and running shoes are never appropriate; however, note that some employers may request that you come in business casual which is dress pants or khakis and a button shirt/blouse.
Remember: Be Respectful!
Respect is a key component in a successful interview. Using appropriate language and remembering to thank the recruiter is always a good idea. Foul language does not create a favorable impression!
Tip: Turn your cell phone off!
Ask Questions
Have a list of questions prepared and typed out. Because the interview typically only lasts between 20-40 minutes, you may not have the opportunity to ask all of your questions, but asking one or two shows that you are interested in the position.
Tip: Don't forget to ask when you can expect to hear form them, and remember to get their business card!
Follow Up
Send a thank-you card, letter, or email within 24 hours of your interview. This shows that you are grateful for the opportunity to speak with the recruiter, and maintains your positive relationship with them.
Tip: If you are unsure about how to write a thank-you letter, visit the CRC!
