Employers and alumni who volunteer to host an extern provide a wonderful opportunity for students to gain first-hand experience in the industry of their choice. Our office has defined the Externship Program as a career shadowing experience, lasting one to five days (depending on the host's schedule) during which time the students have the opportunity to interact with a professional working in their career field.

Some possible activities to include while the student is shadowing you include:

  • Allowing the student to observe some office meetings
  • Touring the student around the various departments within your company/office
  • Giving the student the opportunity to speak with high-level management
  • Conducting a discussion with the student about how you got the position you are currently in, your educational background, some tips for the field, and how to prepare for a job in the industry
How to Register
Volunteer to host an extern by registering in the Extern Host Database.
