STEP 6: Follow-Up
Upon returning from your externship, you should send
a thank you letter
to your host as soon as possible. Remember, you may
want to pursue an internship
or a co-op with
this company or in this industry, so make a great final
impression! Contact the Experiential
Education Team for help with future internships
and co-ops.
Using the Externship "Print
& Go" Packet located in Step 4 will
be a great way to organize all of the information you
received while on externship. The "Print &
Go" packet contains a place to attach business
cards you collected and track your follow-up. It also
contains a unique and highly useful Externship
Reflection and Evaluation exercise to assist
you in reflecting back upon your experience once you
return. What did you enjoy most? How did you like the
work environment? The Reflection
& Evaluation will help you sort out your
thoughts and ideas in response to your externship experience,
as well as get you started on the next step toward further
career-related experiential opportunities.
We sincerely hope that this information was helpful
in creating your externship. If you have any additional
questions or concerns, or you need assistance with setting
up your externship, contact the Experiential
Education Team at the CRC. We are here to assist
you in making your career learning experiences as fulfilling
and rewarding as possible. Also, please feel free to
give the CRC feedback
on the information you have received through this site.
Any comments and suggestions to help us improve this
guide to externships are greatly appreciated. We wish
you the best of luck in both your externship and future
career efforts!
