Career Connections FAQs
1. When I am contacted what should I be ready to discuss?
- A typical day in your field
- What types of clientele you serve or work for
- Typical responsibilities in your line of work
- Steps you took to get into your job (schooling, internships, networking)
- What skills employers are looking for in new hires
- Salary ranges for entry-level positions within your field
Remember, you do not have to answer any question that seems too personal or intrusive. This is simply a way for students to find out first- hand information. Many students and alumni in transition simply want to know, "What is it like?" Any information you can provide is helpful!
2. There are no job opportunities available at my company. What if the seeker asks me for a job?
Career Connections is not meant to be a job-search feature and seekers are aware of this. Occasionally, a seeker may be excited about your organization and ask you about job openings. You have no obligation to find them a job! Please do not feel bad about not being able to offer positions. However, should you feel the individual would be a good candidate for an internship or a job, feel free to discuss that with them. If you are interested in hiring full- time employees, interns or providing a site for externs, please contact the Career Resource Center at 352-273-2333.
Please refer to the Employer section if you are interested in fulfilling your organization's hiring needs.
