I am an international student and I am unable to send companies my resume through GCL, because it tells me I am not qualified. How do I remedy this?
The citizenship status is one of the vital requirements in applying for a job through On Campus Interviewing. Some companies may not sponsor international students. If you feel you would make a good candidate you can submit a consideration request by contacting the company with the information listed in the job posting (if available). Your request will be reviewed by the company and will be contacted if they decide to interview you.

Attending a company information session prior to their interview date is often a great way to gain interview opportunities with employers.

What does preselect signup, preselect alternate signup and open signup mean?
Preselect is a request for an interview. A company will collect resumes and select people they would like to interview. They will then send the CRC a list of“preselects” who will be able to signup for an interview time. The people who are “preselected” will signup during the “Preselect Signup” dates listed in the job posting.

Being a "Preselect Alternate" allows you to sign up during the "Alternate Signup” time if the slots are not already filled by preselects.
Open signup is a time in which all who meet the requirements for the job can signup for an interview time. After submitting your resume you will be taken to the signup times.

Your interview will be in the CRC or Reitz Union unless you are contacted in advance with special instructions.

Alumni/Grad Student

I am an alumnus / alumna and I am unable to submit my resume to companies on Gator CareerLink. It says that I am not qualified for this position, even though they are looking for people in my major and I meet the work authorization type. How do I remedy this?
In the On-Campus job posting, put in a request using the employer contact information (if available) to be considered for the position. The request will be reviewed by the employer and you will be contacted if they would like to interview you.

I am a graduate student and I am unable to apply for a position. How do I submit my resume?
If the degree type states Bachelors and you are a Masters student, you will not be able to apply. Here is one possible reason: Some companies do not want to pay a masters degree pay rate.

However, put in a request using the employer contact information (if available) to be considered for the position. The request will be reviewed by the employer and you will be contacted if they would like to interview you.

Job Search

Why did my search return no job listings?
For more job results, try choosing fewer criteria in your search selections. If you get too many results, try narrowing your search by using more criteria by clicking to the “advanced search tab”. A good suggestion is to use the Keyword search feature.

I am not a business or engineering major, will Gator CareerLink be useful for me?
Of course! CareerLink is not exclusive to business or engineering students, in fact every major can utilize the system. We receive job postings for jobs outside business and engineering. Also, many majors are well-qualified to perform jobs outside of their major and are encouraged to pursue those careers.

With access to UF and national listings for full-time, internship, co-op positions, plus information and tips on how to succeed with your job search, CareerLink can help any UF student or alum.

Resume Formatting Issues

Why doesn’t the preview look like the file I uploaded?
If you are having trouble getting your resume to look correct in the preview, there a few things you can try:
-Change the margins around.
-Not all fonts will translate correctly, so try to use common fonts (Times New Roman, Arial, Helvetica).
-Stay away from font effects like shadow and outline, which may cause your fonts to not convert properly.
-No full justification. It seems to cause problems with spacing.
-Stay away from using tables if possible.

My resume does not appear except for my name and address information?
This could be because you are using tables or nested tables (table inside a table). The conversion process inside the Gator CareerLink system is not table friendly. Use tables sparingly and stick to simple table settings. Instead of tables try setting your tabs. The conversion process accepts tab settings better than tables.

Job Search Agent

What is a job search agent?
A job search agent goes out and looks for job postings that match criteria that you set. A job search agent will notify you by email when new jobs matching your criteria become available.
To set up a job agent:
-Click on “My Jobs”
-Select the “Advanced Search” tab
-Check the “save as” box and name your agent
-Select criteria for the job agent
-Click the submit button
-Now select the “job agent” tab
-Click “schedule” and enable the agent

You can further add setting and set times for the agent to run.
