Job Offer Policy

Once an offer has been accepted by a candidate, please report this information on Gator CareerLink. This information will allow us to collect data about employment market trends and track where UF students go to pursue their career goals.

UF students are informed when they begin the job search process that they should stop the job search process after they accept a position with an organization. Therefore, we ask that you contact us at 352-392-1601 to inform us if a UF student turns down a job offer after accepting it. Students who engage in this behavior will be banned from using Gator CareerLink for two years and will be asked to meet with a CRC advisor and submit an apology letter to you.

In addition, we ask that you grant UF students the same courtesy and not withdraw job offers that have been accepted by candidates. We understand that economic challenges may cause you to make difficult decisions at times. We invite you to contact us first so that we can work on an alternative plan to minimize the impact on UF students.

The National Association of Colleges and Employers  (NACE) suggest that a minimum of three weeks should be given to a candidate to consider your offer. During this time, a candidate should research and evaluate their offer and may consult with the CRC staff to help make a well-informed decision. Please be available to provide additional information to candidates as needed.

According to NACE Principles for Professional Conduct, “the best employment decisions…are those that are made with the greatest amount of information. Students given sufficient time to gather thorough information related to available job opportunities are more likely to make good long-term employment decisions and less likely to renege on job acceptances." NACE, along with the UF CRC, recognizes the need to accept or reject offers in a timely manner.

We encourage you to make offers at the beginning of the academic semester and keep the offer open until the end of the semester.  This will allow students to thoroughly explore their options.

Should you have questions, please contact the Career Resource Center at 352-392-1601.
