CRC Services

The CRC offers many unique programs and services to assist students of all majors and classifications at various stages of the career development process. Most services are available during regular business hours, some however, are only available at certain times during the week.

Building Relationships through Internship Development of Gainesville Area Employers (B.R.I.D.G.E)
The CRC and Gainesville Area Chamber of Commerce have partnered to provide local internships for UF students in all disciplines and classifications. BRIDGE internships are available each semester.

Career Counseling
Professional staff and advanced counseling graduate students are available to provide individual counseling sessions for students of all majors and classifications. In general, career counseling requires 3-5 sessions in which counselors aid students in making career-related decisions such as choosing a major or career or deciding to attend graduate school.

Career Advising
Career advising is provided by Career Advisers and Career Ambassadors. Career Ambassadors are highly trained peer advisers who are available to answer questions, critique student resumes and cover letters, assist students search for jobs and prepare for interviews. Additionally, during a career advising appointment students will receive assistance with job offer preparation, salary negotiation, industry specific advising, graduate school applications, interview preparation, internships and co-ops, networking and career fair preparation.

Career Courses
Freshmen and sophomore students learn how skills and interests impact career and major decisions in SLS 2301. Juniors and Seniors explore job search techniques in SLS 2302.

Career Fairs
The CRC hosts a number of career fairs each year to expose students to various industries, employers and opportunities in various fields. 

  • Part-Time Job Fair is a casual fair where you can meet representatives from more than 50 UF departments and local businesses. 
  • Career Showcase is a two-day fair hosted each fall and spring. Representatives seek candidates from all majors for internship, co-op or full-time positions.
  • Graduate and Professional School Information Day allows students pursuing higher education to talk to representatives from more than 100 graduate or professional school programs.
  • Summer Job Fair hosts employers from various industries and summer programs in Florida and the northeast. Job seekers may find internship, part time or full-time opportunities.
  • Education Recruitment Day brings representatives from more than 40 public school systems. Students interested in teaching, school counseling or administration should attend.

CRC Library Resources
The CRC library houses books, magazines and materials on resume and CV preparation, the job search process, salary ranges, employer information and issues in higher education. Library staff is available from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and can assist you find resources you need.

Internships, Cooperative Education and Externships
Getting professional experience is critical to being competitive. Students earn credit and get paid for alternating semesters of classes and supervised academic work through a co-operative education program. During an internship, students gain paid/unpaid career-related work experience that usually lasts one semester. Co-ops and internships are great networking opportunities that allow students to evaluate career choices and develop marketable skills. Externships allow students to spend a few hours or days shadowing professionals and building a network of contacts for the future and clarify career goals.

E-Career Counseling
Students who can’t make it during regular hours can chat with an E-Career Counselor in the evening and ask questions about choosing a major, changing a major or deciding on a career path.

Employer Information Sessions
Representatives from various organizations visit UF to host Employer Information Sessions during the on-campus recruiting season through the CRC. Students and alumni can attend these free sessions to learn about career opportunities or the interview process of the presenting organization. Face-to-Face Mock Interviews
In 45-minute simulated interviews, students can practice and get constructive feedback and evaluation from career ambassadors.

Gator CareerLink
Gator CareerLink is an online career portal linking students to job databases, on-campus interviews, internship opportunities, mock interview schedules and more. By registering, students can also upload resumes and cover letters, submit applications, sign up for campus interviews, view dates for employer information sessions and track job search activities.

Gator Launch
This program addresses planning concerns of first-generation or minority students to encourage academic retention and success after graduation. Addresses career planning concerns of first-generation or minority students.

Going Global
Going Global is an online tool that prepares students interested in working outside of the United States. The Going Global database contains country specific information and resources for finding international jobs.

On-Campus Interviews with Employers
The CRC hosts thousands of interviews each year within the CRC and J. Wayne Reitz Union that serve as the initial phase of the hiring process. Students must be registered with Gator CareerLink to sign up for an on-campus interview.

OptimalResume
Students can build resumes using this professional Web site.

Virtual Mock Interviews
Students can practice interviewing through electronic media. Virtual mock interviews can be customized to expertise level and recorded for future viewing.

Workshops
Career workshops are designed to help students through all aspects of the career development process. Each workshop series has a specific focus and target audience, ranging from freshmen to graduate students.

  • 4:05 Career Seminar Series
    This college-focused series helps College and Liberal Arts & Science majors understand and market their skills while preparing them for successful jobs. Various disciplines within the college are targeted each fall and spring.
  • Executive Education Series
    In support of our mission to advance the career goals of UF students in a global community, the Career Resource Center hosts executives from various organizations to communicate global career issues. Students, faculty and staff are welcome to attend.
  • Graduate Career Workshop Series
    Graduate students face unique career planning and job search issues. Each year two workshop series are held to assist Masters and Ph.D. students through their employment-search process.

In an effort to reach students of all majors and classifications, Career Resource Center college liaisons work with advisers/representatives within the various colleges to ensure that students are aware of internships/externships, scholarships, employer visits and opportunities.
