1. Where is the Career Resource Center located and when is it open?
We are located on the 1st floor of the J. Wayne Reitz Union near the corner of Gale Lemerand and Museum Road.
Our hours are 8 a.m. – 5 p.m., Monday – Friday during the fall and spring semesters and 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. during summer sessions. We are also open during most academic breaks.
2. What does the Career Resource Center do?
We help students make informed decisions about majors and careers. Individualized and group career counseling and advising is available. Students can also find hands-on experiential opportunities (internships, co-ops and externships), locating full and part-time employment opportunities, and developing solid job search skills. Career courses (SLS 2301 and SLS 2302) examine the resources, strategies and factors affecting career decision-making.
3. Whom does the Career Resource Center assist?
We work with all current UF students—any major or classification. We also assist alumni and employers.
4. Does my student need an appointment to speak with a staff member?
If your student has career-related questions, he or she can visit the CRC during Career Planning Hours without an appointment. During special events and summers our career planning hours may be modified. Basic career decisions can be addressed with our online chat service, E-Career Counseling.
5. My student has just graduated. Can the Career Resource Center still provide help?
The Career Resource Center can assist your student with career counseling, mock interviews and resume critiques for up to one year after graduation. Our workshops, information sessions, career fairs, Gator CareerLink and library resources are available to all alumni, regardless of graduation date.
6. When is the best time for my student to register with the Career Resource Center?
Registration is not required to use the Career Resource Center services, and there is never a bad time to visit our office. However, we encourage all students to register with Gator CareerLink as early as possible.
7. Can the Career Resource Center help my student choose a major?
The Career Resource Center has counselors who can provide assistance and resources to help your student choose or clarify a major. For help deciding on a major, he/she can visit the Career Resource Center during drop-in hours to speak with a career counselor.
8. How can the Career Resource Center help my student find an internship, co-op, part-time or full-time job?
Your student can start by registering with Gator CareerLink, which lists internship, co-op, part-time and full-time opportunities. Our Web site also contains job search information, strategies and web resources. He or she should also stop by our office to explore our Career Library, attend a workshop and/or speak with a staff member for help customize the job search.
9. Can the Career Resource Center help my student with a resume and/or cover letter?
We can provide feedback on resumes and cover letters. Your student should print out his or her resume/cover letter and stop by during on-call hours for immediate assistance. No appointment is needed.
10. What is Gator CareerLink?
Gator CareerLink is an Internet-based tool that helps students search for all types of jobs (part-time jobs, internships and full-time jobs) and schedule on-campus interviews. To maximize interview opportunities, graduating students should register with Gator CareerLink no later than two semesters before their graduation date.
