Gator Launch Mentoring Program
Gator Launch is a mentoring and education program for underrepresented second, third and fourth-year undergraduate UF students in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM). The program is designed to provide students with an opportunity to network with a mentor in the STEM field as well as participate in career development activities.
As a participant, you will learn about a variety of topics such as networking, professionalism, resume writing, interviewing, internships and career planning. During the mentoring component of the program, you will be matched with a professional currently working in your field of interest.
Beginning in the fall semester of 2014, you will participate in monthly 1.5-hr career development seminars and communicate with your mentor at least three times per semester, in person and via phone/skype. During the spring 2015 semester, you will job shadow your mentor for a firsthand experience of a typical day for a professional in your STEM field and you will meet key people in your mentor’s organization.
We define the term underrepresented broadly, to include gender, economic status, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity and any other identities that are not represented in STEM fields.
There are three components to your application.
- Application Form: Download and complete the application form (right click + "save target as" or "save link as").
- Essay: A one (1) page essay is required. You will need to answer the following questions:
- a. How do you identify as an underrepresented person in the STEM fields?
- b. How do you think you would benefit from the Gator Launch program?
- c. What are your current career goals or objectives?
Application Submission and Deadline
Applications are accepted via email only. To send via e-mail, print, complete and scan in the application form and send in along with your essay and resume to Gator Launch.
