American Resumes & CVS

In many countries outside of the United States, resumes and CVs are the same, however, in the US, they are different. A resume is a short, 1-2 page document that highlights your education and work experience and is used to apply for work outside an academic training. A CV is a longer document used for academic and research positions that details your career. It can be as many pages as necessary.

Do not include visa status, photographs or personal information such as date of birth, marital status, number of children, race, gender, health or religion.

When writing a resume or CV, be sure to include the most relevant information first. Adapt your resume to the job/position you are applying for and be sure to expound on any experiences you have had that may relate directly to the position.

Visit the Resumes & Cover Letters pages for examples or come in to the CRC Library for resume critique.
